SUP Pilates in Cascais: The New Summer Fitness Trend

SUP Pilates in Cascais is one of the newest fitness trends this summer. Combining balance, strength, and the natural movement of the ocean, it offers a unique way to train on the water. At first glance, it might seem like an unusual combination — Pilates is already a demanding practice on its own. Bringing it onto a Stand Up Paddle board, in the middle of the ocean, takes the challenge to a whole new level.

With the arrival of summer and warmer temperatures, Sports Center Cascais invites you to experience this unique activity, first developed in the summer of 2025 and quickly becoming a success.

The project began with a special challenge: organizing a large-scale SUP Pilates event for the brand OYSHO. For this, we adapted our SUP boards, built floating platforms, and hosted several training sessions for the Pilates instructors invited by the brand. This allowed them to adjust to this new “floating studio” where the sessions would take place.

The event exceeded expectations — both for participants and organizers — becoming the starting point for integrating SUP Pilates into our regular offering and sharing it with our community.

Is SUP Pilates Difficult?

One of the most common questions is about the difficulty of practicing Pilates on the water. The answer is simple: it’s not significantly harder.

With the right equipment, professional guidance, and proper sea conditions, SUP Pilates becomes a safe and accessible activity. While some complex movements from traditional Pilates may be adapted, simpler exercises gain a new dimension due to the natural instability of the board.

This makes the practice more dynamic, engaging, and suitable for all levels.

Looking ahead to 2026, the goal is to further develop this activity by connecting with the Pilates community in Lisbon and Cascais — bringing the studio to the ocean and creating a completely new training experience.
